Cessation of Employment
Overview
An employee may choose to leave the employment of the Department or a school council for a variety of reasons.
The employment of an employee may be terminated due to unauthorised absence.
An employee must resign if elected to State Parliament or if they wish to contest a federal election.
Employment separation certificates are required by Centrelink to determine eligibility for various benefits. If an employee requests a certificate, the employer must provide it. For further information and a copy of the form, contact the local Centrelink office or see below.
Further information
An employee may be entitled to receive payment in lieu of unused leave entitlements upon cessation of employment (including the end of a period of fixed term employment). For further information, refer to Payment in Lieu of Entitlements under Related Topics below.
