Sabbatical Leave
Public Service
Sabbatical leave (referred to as extended leave in the Victorian Public Service Agreement 2006) provides employees with a flexible arrangement whereby they can fund their own leave. There are two options available to employees:
- An employee may be granted sabbatical leave of thirteen weeks on 80 per cent of salary subject to the employee agreeing to have his or her salary reduced by 20 per cent for a fifty-two week work period; or
- An employee may be granted sabbatical leave of 12 months on 80 per cent of salary subject to the employee agreeing to have his or her salary reduced by 20 per cent for a four year work period.
A sabbatical leave arrangement over a longer period than that specified may be entered into by agreement.
Where the employee participates in one of the above flexible work arrangements and is not required to attend duty during the sabbatical period, the period of non-attendance shall not constitute a break in service and shall count for service for all purposes.
The employee will be required to enter into an agreement covering the terms and conditions of the sabbatical leave.
