Overview

The Department is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible and safe work environment free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.

All applicants and employees including those with disabilities are to be treated respectfully and equitably in all stages of the employment process including:

  • recruitment and selection
  • professional development & training
  • performance management
  • promotion or transfer

The Department acknowledges the significance of employment for people with disabilities, and makes reasonable adjustments to provide equal opportunity for people with disabilities in its workplaces.

All employees, managers and school leaders should be aware of their rights and responsibilities with respect to legislation and Department policy.

Disability Action Plan 2009-2012

The Department's Disability Action Plan 2009–2012 available below outlines a wide range of actions that will be undertaken to optimise participation and positive outcomes for Victorians with a disability.

The actions address 4 key areas:

  • access to goods, services and facilities;
  • access to (and retention of) employment;
  • the promotion of participation and inclusion of people with disability in the community;
  • changing attitudes and practices discriminating against people with disability.

The Disability Employment Advisory Service (DEAS)

The Department is working with the Disability Employment Advisory Service to increase the representation of people with disabilities in the corporate and school workforce.  Further information below.
