Teaching Scholarships

The Teaching Scholarship Scheme provides financial incentives to final year student teachers and new graduates to take up employment in schools with priority teaching vacancies. Up to 150 scholarship positions are available in each financial year

Teaching Scholarship vacancies can be progressively advertised throughout the school year.  Vacancies advertised for the start of the school year will commence on 1 January and the recipient paid from this date from within the school's Student Resource Package.  All scholarship vacancies must offer ongoing employment.

Principals interested in advertising a vacancy under the Teaching Scholarship Scheme should:

  1. check your school's eligibility to advertise a scholarship vacancy in terms of the scholarship categories;
  2. create an ongoing vacancy in draft mode on Recruitment Online, selecting 'Teaching Scholarship Program' as the classification;
  3. send the job opening number to  scholarship@edumail.vic.gov.au for review and approval; and
  4. if assistance required, contact the Schools Recruitment Unit.

In addition, principals can search the Recruitment Online talent pool for resumes that have been submitted by potential applicants. For further detail see Other Resources below.

Maths and Science Graduate Scholarships

Employment opportunities in government schools have been promoted to scholarship recipients available for employment.  In addition to lodging a resume on Recruitment Online and responding to advertised vacancies recipients were also invited to publish their availability through this site.

Principals are encouraged to advertise vacancies on Recruitment Online to attract these new graduates.  The Maths and Science Graduate Scholarship provided recipients with benefits of up to $11,000.  Vacancies advertised as part of the Department's Teaching Scholarship Scheme will potentially provide for additional benefits of up to $7,000. For rural appointments there is also potential for additional retention benefits. Usual suitability for employment and pre-employment requirements would need to be met.

For details on scholarship benefits and recipient employment preferences, see: Other Resources below.
